Commerce Chenango offers grant program for website development
NORWICH – Commerce Chenango is pleased to announce a new grant program that will assist Chenango County businesses in developing a website.
The program, titled “Connect Chenango,” will assist twenty Chenango County small businesses who may otherwise not be able to afford the expense of a website. The businesses will be required to provide a $300 match to a $300 grant.
Websites will all have the same basic structure including a home page and five linked pages. Basic content of the websites could include contact information for the business, photographs, product or service features, a blog or article posting, or other basic categories. More complex website design – including e-commerce features and database work – will not be included in the scope of the project, but may be accommodated by the designer outside the initial website development.
Commerce Chenango is contracting with website designer Craig Ballinger of Pixelfusion New Media to complete the sites. Each website will be crafted for the individual business, custom designed for them, and completed by a target date of April 15.
Websites will be created so that the business owner or site manager has full control over their own information and any related updates. Each business will be required to participate in two site development workshops, one on one site development sessions, and continued maintenance of the final product.
The application period will begin immediately, with the twenty businesses to be selected by the end of January. Deadline to apply is Jan. 15. The requirements for businesses seeking to apply include: no current operational website, less than five employees, ability to pay the $300 match, and demonstrated dedication to the project.
The Connect Chenango website grant program is funded in part by a grant from Senator Tom Libous intended to assist in county-wide efforts for economic development, marketing, and business promotion.
