EITC partnership offers free tax preparation

CHENANGO COUNTY – Although the holidays are currently upon us, many in Chenango County are already thinking about the coming tax season, and the Chenango Earned Income Tax Credit Partnership Committee may be able to help.

In the fourth year of the program, The EITC Partnership Committee is offering free tax preparation service to anyone with a combined household income of $39,783 or less, depending on the number of adults and children in the household.

The program has been steadily growing since it was first introduced in 2004. Based on the volunteer work of several organizations, including the Chenango United Way, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Opportunities for Chenango, Colgate University, The Internal Revenue Service, The American Association of Retired Persons, GHS Credit Union, NBT Bank, M&T Bank (formerly Partners Trust), SUNY Morrisville, Chenango County Department of Social Services and the Chenango County Farm Bureau, the goal of the organization is to prepare and file as many tax returns as possible and help families in Chenango County receive the money they qualify as part of the Earned Income Tax Credit.
