Wrestling
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville crowned five champions at the S-E Classic, and 171-pounder Wheeler Brunschmid was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler Saturday night.
Brunschmid, a senior for the Marauders, pinned Vestal’s Ryan Cardon in 3:09. Cardon came into the finals with 17 wins, all by pinfall. Brunschmid dominated the match leading 9-1 before finishing the match.
Alec Sheddon (96), Tyi Franklin (103), and Greg DuVall (112) started the finals with title wins for S-E, and 285-pounder Chris Pike remained unbeaten winning a decision in the finals.
The Marauders placed third out of 11 teams behind first-place Vestal and runner-up Governeur. “Vestal is a pretty solid club and had all of their kids in the semifinals,” said S-E assistant coach Brian Hicks. “We wanted to finish in the top three like last year, and we were able to do that.”
The Marauders host Canastota Tuesday.
