SHERBURNE – The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation recently announced it would be providing $32 million in interest-free financing to 11 communities in New York state, including one in Chenango County.

The Village of Sherburne will receive financing for a $1.95 million water project. The funds, provided through the New York Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund, will finance the cost of a new ground water source, transmission, a storage tank, and upgrades to the distribution system.

“The project addressed issues of inadequate supply and storage capacity, pumping equipment failure and aged and undersized distribution mains,” according to the EFC web site.

Since 1997, the Drinking Water SRF has provided New York communities with more than $2 billion in financing and $135.3 million in subsidies for drinking water improvement projects in 541 communities. The Drinking Water SRF is administered through the EFC in conjunction with the state Department of Health.
