Oxford prepares to celebrate its 200th

OXFORD – A coordinating committee has been established to plan the logistics and determine the financial support needed for the Village of Oxford’s upcoming bicentennial celebration July 26.

Committee co-chairs, Village Trustees Dale Leach and Joe Spence, are looking at including several different attractions for the celebration. Some ideas discussed involved marching bands, a classic car show and a civil war reenactment.

The Oxford Lions Club volunteered in January to help plan the parade for the village. Since that time, club members have met regularly with the primary goal of “getting out to other organizations and finding commitments to the event,” according to Lions Club President Ron Charles.

“It’s still pretty open at this point, and anyone with a good idea can still contribute,” said Charles.

“The Lions and other service clubs, such as Rotary, have a long and proud tradition of binding Oxford together through their service to the community,” Spence said.
