State approves Chase plans

NEW BERLIN – The New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council voted unanimously earlier this month to approve the unique concept for Chase Memorial Nursing Home’s $2 million capital building project.

The concept, called “The Green House Project,” is an innovative approach to eldercare that will replace the 80-bed facility with individual homes for residents to live in and be cared for in a home-like setting. It was created by Chenango County’s own Dr. William H. Thomas, of Columbus.

Construction is slated to begin in September, according to Chase administrator Roger J. Halbert. The project and capital campaign were announced last summer.
