Oxford advances in ‘C’ playoffs
OXFORD – Oxford rebounded from a MAC tournament finals loss a week ago beating Unadilla Valley a second time this season.
A technical foul assessed on UV with just under four minutes to play led to two free throws for Alex Champlin and a bucket by Tom Gould to open a 53-48 lead.
Unadilla Valley, down by 11 points in the first half, picked up steam in the third quarter keyed by Raffi Perry’s 10 third-quarter points. A Mason Wyman hoop gave UV its only lead of the second half, 49-48.
“They made some adjustments from the first time we played them, and it was nice for us to win a close game,” said Oxford coach Tim Davis.
Scott Seiler had three trifectas in the first half lifting the Blackhawks (18-3) to a double-digit lead at halftime. Seiler led with 18 points and Champlin added 14.
UV’s Perry scored 16 points , Wyman chipped in with 14, and Darin Garcia had 10. “It was a good game, back and forth with a quick pace,” Davis said. “After the way we beat them earlier this year (63-40), I’m sure they had some extra motivation this time around.”
Oxford plays Candor Tuesday at a neutral site.
