Police probe Afton burglaries

AFTON – The New York State Police, Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, Afton Police Department, and Canadian Pacific Railroad Police are conducting an investigation into a large number of burglaries and larcenies reported over the last few years, primarily in the Afton area of Chenango County.
Two search warrants have been executed at a location in Afton resulting in a large amount of stolen property being recovered. Matthew M. Snyder, 21 years of age, of Afton has been arrested for multiple counts of Burglary 2nd and 3rd degree. He was incarcerated in the Chenango County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Curtis F. Snyder Jr., 52 years of age also of Afton, has been arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen property 3rd and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th. He was also incarcerated in the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Citizens of the Afton area who have been the victim of a burglary or larceny, where their property has not been recovered to date, are being asked to call the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Sidney at 561-7400. Anyone else who may have information is also asked to call. All calls will remain confidential.
