Father and son charged in connection to $30,000 in thefts

NORWICH – Last week, a father and son appeared in Chenango County Court over allegations involving the theft and possession of nearly $30,000 worth of items allegedly taken from several burglarized residences.

Matthew M. Snyder, 21, Nurse Hollow Road, Afton is charged with six counts of burglary and one count of stolen property. He was remanded to the Chenango County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

His father, Curtis F. Snyder, 52, Blakesly Nurse Hollow Road, is accused of being in possession of several stolen items and prosecutors also claim he stole over $3,000 worth of equipment and tools. Police accused Curtis of attempting to “impede” their attempts to recover the property. He was also incarcerated in the Chenango County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Both men have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The New York State Police, Chenango County Sheriff’s Department, Afton Police Department, and Canadian Pacific Railroad Police conducted an investigation into a large number of burglaries and larcenies reported over the last few years. The two men were arrested Jan. 22 in the Town of Afton.
