O’Connor named Ivy League’s top wrestler

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Just a year after winning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, O’Connor was unanimously named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year, the first Harvard University sophomore to earn that distinction.
The 2007 Oxford Academy graduate is the third Harvard wrestler named Ivy League Wrestler of the Year, and it comes on the heels of a 22-1 seasonal record at 149 pounds and the number two ranking in the nation.
O’Connor finished 11-0 in dual action and 5-0 against Ivy League competition, and is just the second Ancient Eight grappler to win wrestler of the year a season after winning All-Ivy rookie honors.
NCAA champion Jesse Jantzen (2004), and Dustin DeNunzio (1999) were recipients of the Ivy League’s Wrestler of the Year award – both as seniors.
O’Connor, a four-time New York State scholastic wrestling champion, competes in the EIWA Championships this weekend in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
O’Connor will also compete in the NCAA Division One Championships beginning Thursday, March 20 in St. Louis, Missouri.
