Colgate Chamber Players entertain in Norwich Sunday
NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts in Norwich will present the second performance in its spring chamber music series at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Colgate Chamber Players of Hamilton, under the direction of Professor of Music Laura Klugherz, will perform “Baroque and Beyond,” a program of music for small ensembles of strings, winds and piano. The concert will also include works by Mozart, Haydn, Sammartini and Joaquin Turina and a special performance by the Colgate cello choir.
The Chamber Players, now in their 20th season, are a select group of advanced players representing many disciplines across the campus. CP alums have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in music, and they have also become Hollywood composers, doctors, lawyers, traders, graphic artists and designers, and educators. The long afternoon hours of rehearsal have been punctuated by a varied series in and around campus, tours in New York City and Mexico, and a special musical retreat in Chile. In January several Chamber Players participated in a concert tour of central Mexico as part of a Liberal Arts Core Mexico extended study. Selected Chamber Players have been interns at the Chenango Summer MusicFest, learning intensive chamber music rehearsal skills, festival organization, public relations, and time management. Professor of Music Laura Klugherz has been the motivating force behind the Colgate Chamber Players since 1988.
