AFTON – Afton pulled away from Unadilla Valley in the sixth inning scoring nine runs in an 11-1 win in girls’ softball last week.

Jessica Winans tripled twice – both in the nine-run frame – to lead the Crimson Knights. Ashley Winans struck out 16 UV hitters and allowed four hits for the win.

Sakura Gysin had two hits and two stolen bases for Unadilla Valley. Kristen Elliott struck out seven and allowed five Afton hits in the loss. “Defensively, we did well for our first game of the season and just the second time outside,” said UV coach Eileen Lawyer. “We needed to be more aggressive at the plate and on the bases, but overall, I was pleased with how the kids played.”
