Local teachers serve up the fries Tuesday
NORWICH – Middle school teachers as well as the principal will be flipping burgers, salting the fries and waiting on customers from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday as part of a new way to raise funds for school programming.
McDonald's calls it “McTeacher's Night,” a fund-raiser set up by the fast food chain that gives a percentage of the profits for teachers who volunteer three hours behind the counter.
Sponsored locally by the Parent-Teacher-Student-Association (PTSA), the proceeds raised will go to special events or programs offered to students throughout the upcoming school year. Throughout the three hours, 20 percentage of the sales will be given to the school organization.
“It is a good way to get the community involved, it sounds like a lot of fun,” said PTSA President Lynn Parker.
Parker said also that the healthy choices on the McDonald’s menu means even people who are counting their calories can help make the night successful.
This is the first year the local establishment has taken part in this type of fund-raiser. McDonald’s general manager Melody Dodge said she and her staff are excited to take part in such an “exciting” fundraiser. She said the restaurant will be fully staffed as they all take part in showing the teachers the ropes of making the food and serving the customers.
“We are hoping to see a lot of success with this so we can do it again in for more schools in the future,” said Dodge.
