Hooper earns Anna Suplee Nursing Scholarship

NORWICH – Wednesday members of the Chenango County Senior Citizens Council visited SUNY Morrisville Norwich Extension to present a student with the Anna Suplee Memorial Nursing Scholarship.

This year’s scholarship went to Otselic Valley graduate Nicole Hooper. Hooper, who now lives in Norwich with her three year old son, is a second year student in the nursing program and has has achieved the Dean’s List for four semesters.

Chenango County Senior Citizens Council President Fred McGarity explained the scholarship is given in memory of Senior Citizens Council Founder Anna Suplee. “Anna Suplee was a retired nurse, an advocate for senior citizens and served as president of the council for many years. This scholarship is in honor of her years of dedicated service to her patients and senior citizens of Chenango County,” McGarity said. The council advocates for and strives to enhance the quality of life for Chenango County’s seniors.

For almost 10 years, the scholarship has been given to a second-year nursing student based on academic achievement and financial need. ‘I’m very pleased the council continues to support our students here,” said Peg Golden, associate dean of nursing.
