City begins search for new fire chief

NORWICH – The City of Norwich will formally begin interviewing candidates for the position of fire chief tonight.
Police Chief Joseph Angelino has been taking on additional duties since 2006, working as both the police chief and the fire chief, even though his appointment to the fire department was originally intended to last for only six months after the resignation of former Chief John Tighe.
At the April meeting of the Finance / Personnel Committee, Human Resources Coordinator Debbie Deforest was asked to begin the process of filling the position.
A residency preference list was compiled, and two Norwich residents will interview for the position on Wednesday. Firefighter Tracy Chawgo and Code Enforcement Officer Jason Lawrence are scheduled for interviews. Deforest said she is hopeful she will be able to present a name to the council at the regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. on April 15.
