NORWICH – Norwich rebounded quickly from an opening shutout loss to Chenango Valley powering past Susquehanna Valley Wednesday.
Tim Clark pitched four innings of relief for his first varsity win. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. “We started a little rocky, but we calmed down and played error-free the last four innings,” said Norwich coach John Martinson.
Mike Moon went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI triple in the fourth. Mackay Hotaling added two hits and an RBI double in the sixth. “We just seemed more relaxed at the plate,” Martinson added.
Norwich hosts Sidney today in a non-league game.

Tim Sloan pitched six innings for the win, and Chris Lanza along with Luke Acanfora had three RBI apiece. Peter Schmidt added a 2-for-3 day at the plate for G-MU. “It was a pretty good game for a while, then our pitching kind of ran out of gas,” said OV coach Dave Loomis. “We struggled in on the mound and in the field after the third inning, and we made a number of miscues we need to correct. G-MU is a good team and it was a good non-league test.”

Leading early in the game, Garrett Porack broke a tie game with a two-run double as part of a three-run sixth frame. The Marauders added two insurance runs in the seventh. “We were patient at the plate and had a lot of good execution,” said S-E coach Brian Hicks. “We had a lot of balance and put the ball in play.”

“The first win is the toughest, now that is out of the way and the team’s confidence is up,” Locke said.
Junior varsity call-up Ryan Harrington went 3-for-4, while Mike Bluy added a three-hit day and three runs scored. Mason Wyman, Jake Curtis, Dylan Webb, and T.J. Brownell had two RBI apiece to lead the winners.
P.J. Hubman, Nick Gates, Nate Sortino, and Jared Hueth had two hits apiece for Oxford, who have dropped two straight games in as many days. “Tonight it wasn’t a well-played game defensively, but the offenses were there for both teams,” Locke said.

The Blackhawks scored four in the first inning, and on the flip side of the field, played its first error-free game. “Oxford was aggressive on the bases and did everything we should have been doing,” said UV coach Eileen Lawyer. “We left a lot of runners on base and eight in scoring position.”
Haley Witchella went 3-for-4 with three runs for Oxford (2-2).
Hannah Johnson was 2-for-3 on the UV single and Hannah Benson stroked an RBI single. Kristen Elliott struck out 11 and walked two in taking the loss.
