Guitarists headline at Chamber Music series

NORWICH – The Chenango County Council of the Arts will present the third and final performance in its spring Chamber Music Series at 2 p.m. Sunday with The Classical Guitars of Paul Sweeny and Tom Rasely.

Classical guitarist Paul Sweeny, a resident of Binghamton, has taught and performed locally for many years.  He has performed frequently as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles including Simple Gifts (with recorder player Barbara Kaufman), Early On, the Palisander Trio, and the Binghamton Baroque Ensemble.  He teaches classical guitar and Music History at Broome Community College and has a private studio in Binghamton. He will play pieces by J.S.Bach, Francisco Tarrega, Villa-Lobos, and Antonio Lauro.

Tom Rasely, private guitar instructor and recording artist will play original arrangements of popular classical pieces by Bach, Brahms, Hassler, Sibelius, and Pachelbel. Rasely began playing the guitar in 1964 and comes from a musical family. He studied music at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY and received a Bachelor of Music Education from SUNY Fredonia ('73). He is a performer, teacher and arranger, and has appeared on over 45 recording projects. Tom has also performed as guest artist with several upstate New York symphony orchestras and twice at The White House. He is the founder/director of the Norwich Guitar School, and is a moderator on the Guitarnotes.com discussion forum.
