Police arrest Army deserter

NORWICH – Norwich City Police apprehended a local man wanted on an arrest warrant for deserting from the United States Army.

The Norwich Police Department responded to a complaint Monday in the City of Norwich. While identifying those at the location, police came across James Joseph Matsko, 24, of 150 Brookins Road, Smyrna. Matsko was found to be wanted as a deserter from the United States Army.

Matsko was a member of an active duty company stationed out of Fort Jackson, S.C.. He was a Private First Class in Company C, as a member of the 187th Ordinance Battalion. Norwich Police report that Matsko had been absent since Feb. 14, 2007.
