NORWICH – Having trouble getting through the City of Norwich lately? You’re obviously not alone. And according to official word, it’s likely to get worse today.
Gorick Construction of Binghamton is assisting the city’s DPW crews manhole maintenance on North and South Broad Streets, a project that’s likely to take the better part of a month, said Police Chief Joseph Angelino Wednesday afternoon. The crews’ work naturally obstructs traffic flow on Norwich’s main thoroughfare, which has also caused bottlenecks on access roads, including Hale Street.
Today, county Public Works crews expect work on the Halfway House Bridge south of Norwich to filter state Rt. 12 traffic into a single lane, compounding the traffic congestion in the city.
“I’d advise drivers to be patient, and allow extra time to reach their destinations,” Angelino said, reminding motorists that police barricades and traffic cones “are there for a reason.”
