NEW BERLIN – Unadilla Valley reached double digit runs for the second straight game to edge Greene Thursday for its third win of the season.
Tyler Peet came on to pitch two innings of scoreless relief to wrap up the win for starter Rastus Hendershot. Jake Curtis had two hits and four RBI for the Storm, and Darin Garcia went 3-for-4 with two RBI. “We came up with some big hits, and they walked a lot of guys,” said UV coach Tom Locke. “We took advantage of situations their pitchers got them into.”
Dave Fors had three doubles for the Trojans, while Dan Carlin and Nick Puglisi finished with two hits apiece.
UV (3-4) is at Sidney Saturday.

DEPOSIT – Deposit’s strong hitting lineup pounded out 14 base knocks in a comfortable win over the Blackhawks Thursday.
Number nine hitter Mike Katen stroked a two-run homer in the second, and Ben Winans dealt Oxford a crushing blow smacking a grand slam to cap a five-run fifth.
“I felt at the start of the season Delhi would be one of the top teams in our division,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer. “We battled to the end hitting-wise, but we have a lot of work to do defensively.”
Oxford committed six errors to offset an 11-hit day. P.J. Hubman tripled twice and drove in a run for the Blackhawks, and Robert Amor along with Nick Gates notched matching two-hit days.
The Blackhawks travel to Sidney today.

AFTON – Coming into the week with a four-game losing streak, the Crimson Knights won their second straight game, and have allowed just one run over that 14-inning stretch.
“Our pitching is doing well and our defense is starting to tighten up,” said Afton coach Ron Rapp. “It took us a while to have a lineup that was solid, and tonight everybody contributed.”
Adam Berkeley went the route for Afton striking out 11 and giving up just two B-G hits. Casey Mohrein led the winners at the plate with three hits and two RBI. Jake Snyder added a pair of hits.
Afton plays a non-league game at Morris today.

Greene 4, Unadilla Valley 1
NEW BERLIN – Greene made few mistakes, while also capitalizing on six Unadilla Valley errors to edge the Storm on Thursday.
Erin Smith allowed just one UV hit, although she struck out just two and relied heavily on a defense that made just one error. “We hit the ball hard and I was pleased with that, but it was right at people,” said UV coach Eileen Lawyer. “Greene made all the plays they needed to make, and all of their runs came as a result of our errors.”
UV hurler Kristen Elliott was the hard-luck loser striking out seven, walking one, and giving up just four hits.
The Storm play a doubleheader at Sidney Saturday.

OXFORD – Oxford ran its mark to 3-0 on the season with strong efforts again from Cory and Scott Seiler Thursday.
Cory Seiler led with a 36 over the par-34 front nine at Bluestone Golf Club, and Scott Seiler went 1-under-par his last four holes to shoot a 37. Jim Fagnani remained steady shooting a 41, and John Witchella posted a 42.
The Blackhawks travel to Marathon today.

Clinton, Westmoreland top S-E
SHERBURNE – Clinton and Westmoreland ran away with first- and second-place in the three-way boys track and field meet Thursday, while Westmoreland captured a dual meet triumph over the Marauders girls.
S-E had three first-place finishes on the day getting wins from Jasmine Huff in the 1500 meters, Shana Ralston in the 400-meter hurdles, and Danielle Green in the long jump.
Sherburne-Earlville competes at Little Falls Saturday.
