Chenango County lifts ban on outdoor burning

CHENANGO COUNTY – The State of Emergency banning outdoor burning was lifted as of Sunday.
Chenango County Chairman Richard B. Decker, in conjunction with the Chenango County Bureau of Fire, has lifted the burn ban for Chenango County.
Chenango County residents can burn their lawn debris or have camp fires, but they are urged to abide by the following safety measures:
• Burn lawn debris by conducting fires inside barrels or fire places.
• Clear an area of three feet around burn areas.
• Wet down the burn area around the burn site with water.
• Have some type of fire extinguisher readily available at the burn site, such as a garden hose connected to a water faucet, fire extinguisher or water buckets.
• Burn in moderation. Do not attempt to burn a large area or pile all at once. Burn in small portions of a larger period of time.
All fires must be attended until the burn is completed. Residents are required to contact Chenango County Fire Control at 334-5380 before and after conducting controlled burns. Anyone with questions can contact the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at 674-4036, the Chenango County Fire Coordinators Office at 334-5564 or your local fire department.
