Voices of Tabernacle present “Choral Jazz”

SHERBURNE – The Voices of Tabernacle will present “Choral Jazz” at 3 p.m., Sunday, May 4.
Directed by Anita Humer, the chorus, made up of members from Smyrna, Earlville, Hamilton, Sherburne, Madison, Norwich and Waterville, will sing well-know jazz tunes, such as: “Moonglow,” “Dream,” “Take Five,” “Take the A Train” and many more. Vocal soloists will be Shannon Staley singing, “I’ll Be Seeing You” and Darlene Miller singing, “Both Sides Now.”
“This program of choral jazz introduces songs back to 1927,” Humer explained. “Including Stardust, one of the most recorded songs of the twentieth century, with over 1,800 different recordings.” Humer continued, explaining that the songs range from the 1927 “Stardust” to Barbara Streisand’s 1970’s hit “On a Clear Day.” “There is a lot of variety in this show,” Humer said.
Instrumental soloists will be Cathy and Ray Thielke on mallet percussion, and a Loillet Piano Trio, performed by Anita Humer on piano, Stephen Sabin on the cello and Debra Mineo on violin. Mineo is a violin teacher from Oneonta. This will be her first area performance. Piano students of Anita Humer, including Hayley Chwazik-Gee, Laura Goodchild, Jason Handy, Kinzea Jones, Matt Khoury and Ethan Waterman will perform jazz selections.
In addition, Sherburne-Earlville High School Senior Joseph Mettler has composed two of his own songs that he will perform with fellow senior Adrian Enscoe.
“Please join us for our Jazz Concert,” Humer said. The concert will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Classic Street in Sherburne. Tickets may be purchased at the door. This project is made possible in part by funds from the Broome and Chenango County Decentralization Project and is sponsored by the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
