Dairy Day planned for June 21
NORWICH – As June nears, work is busily underway for the 2008 Dairy Day Celebration, to be held on Saturday, June 21, at the Chenango County Fairgrounds. This year promises to be the most exciting yet!
The day will begin with the second annual “Milk Run,” a 3K race beginning and ending at the fairgrounds. The 9a.m. race will be run through Norwich and will finish with a celebratory serving of chocolate milk. Scientific studies have been completed which find that drinking chocolate milk during workouts helps refuel tired muscles after strenuous exercise and can enable athletes to exercise at a high intensity during subsequent workouts. New this year - a "Bake It With Dairy" baking contest. This is the perfect opportunity to show off your baking skills while incorporating healthy dairy products into some delicious treats! There will be two age divisions for aspiring chefs to participate in: Adult and Youth. One Grand Prize Winner will be chosen in each division by a panel of judges, with first, second, and third place also being named. Grand Prize Winners will each receive $50 plus a Dairy Gift Basket full of dairy goodies! Categories will include: cookies, yeast or quick breads, and cakes. While awaiting the results of the “Milk Run” and “Bake It With Dairy” contests to be announced, enjoy the Dairy Day Parade as it makes its way from the P&C Foods parking lot to the fairgrounds. The parade will begin at 11a.m. and feature the Dairy Day Parade Marshall, tractors, milk trucks, feed trucks, oxen, agriculture floats, and much, much more. Remember to vote for your favorite float, winners will be announced at Dairy Day. Following the Dairy Day Parade, the fairgrounds will be open to the public to participate in agricultural activities and visit with agricultural businesses/organizations. Be a “Farmer For A Day”, test yourself in the Kiddie Tractor Pull and Race, visit the petting zoo and farm equipment demonstrations, check out the antique tractors, enjoy FREE dairy products, view the coloring contest entries, learn about oxen and farming from yester-year, watch as local celebrities compete in the goat milking contest, find your way out of the haybale maze, see sheep shearing demonstrations plus much, much more!
