Man sentenced for child sex crimes
NORWICH – Jason Heisler, 35, Oxford, who pleaded guilty to first degree sexual abuse and second degree criminal sexual act, both class D felonies earlier this month, was sentenced to ten years in state prison Friday.
Two weeks have passed since the court accepted the defendant’s plea and in that time, the proper paperwork had to be completed before sentencing.
At sentencing, Supreme Court Judge Kevin M. Dowd allowed the defendant to speak on his own behalf.
“I want to apologize to my wife and to my children for my actions,” he said.
After speaking briefly, the floor was open for final comments from District Attorney Joseph A. McBride, who said sternly that the only reason he wasn’t asking for Heisler to spend the rest of his life in prison was because he did not want to make the victims relive the incidents in court.
McBride said he hoped the defendant would think every day while he sits in prison about what he did to the children he hurt.
In Oxford in the summer of 2006, Heisler subjected a girl less than 11 years old to sexual conduct. Two years prior in 2004 in the Town of McDonough, Heisler subjected a male under age 15 to engage in sexual conduct.
