OV reaches Section III title game

Baseball

Otselic Valley 6, Copenhagen 2
SOUTH OTSELIC – Otselic Valley won its third playoff game in six days, and advanced to the Section III, Class D finals beating the foul weather and Copenhagen Saturday afternoon.
Brian Graham pitched a complete-game three-hitter striking out eight and walking none. Chris Olin went 3-for-3 including an RBI double that gave the Vikings (17-5) the lead in a four-run third inning.
“Our pitching has been good, and it’s started to come around the last three weeks,” said Vikings coach Dave Loomis. “We’re finding the strike zone more, and that’s helped a lot. We’re also more selective at the plate than we have been in years. We’re making the pitcher pitch, and we’re also playing good defense.”
Brad Wentworth had a team-high three RBI, while Eric Wentworth and Taylor Duell also collected single ribbies.
OV plays Rome Catholic Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Rome for the section title.

Deposit 12, G-MU 4
DEPOSIT – Deposit played to its number one seed dispatching G-MU Saturday in the Class D playoffs.
Corey Andresen struck out nine for the win, and added a 3-for-4 day at the dish with three RBI.
“They’re definitely a good team,” said G-MU coach Jim Johnson. “The first three innings, we got the first two outs quickly. All six runs came on two-out rallies with no one on base.”
G-MU rallied to tie the game in the third. Cody Hall and Tyler Wildfeir plated runs, and Hall’s heads-up baserunning allowed him to score from third as Deposit’s catcher was standing too far from home plate. “I wasn’t disappointed with our play, we just lost to the better team, and we made a couple of errors at crucial times,” Johnson said.
Nate Sloan and Cody Luettger had two hits apiece for G-MU (11-8).

Seton Catholic Central 12, Unadilla Valley 0
BINGHAMTON – Seton Catholic Central continued its defense of last year’s sectional title rolling past UV Friday.
St. Bonaventure recruit, Anderson Conte, mowed down the Storm to the tune of 17 strikeouts against a single walk in the first inning to record a no-hitter. “We were just overpowered,” summed up UV coach Eileen Lawyer. “We don’t see that kind of pitching all year. The best thing is that we (as a team) played with our heads in the game every second.”
Alicia Garbade went 2-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Saints. Garbabe picked up a two-run single in the third upping her team’s lead to 5-0.
UV, third place in MAC division one play this past season, finishes 7-11.
