Calling all Scrabble enthusiasts!

NORWICH – The 8th annual Scrabble for Literacy Fundraiser will take place on June 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Norwich Campus of Morrisville State College with more than a dozen teams playing Scrabble, competing for prizes and having a great time. Scrabble enthusiasts may play as a team of 2 - 4 people or sign up as an individual and be placed on a team to compete for a variety of prizes. A participation fee of $12 per person is charged at time of registration.
This popular event is a fundraiser to support Chenango County’s Literacy Volunteers programs. Literacy Volunteers of Chenango County (LVCC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enabling people to achieve personal goals through literacy. Literacy Volunteers provides free, one-to-one, confidential and learner-centered tutoring to adults seeking help in basic literacy or English as a Second Language. Volunteer tutors help adults achieve economic, family or personal goals through literacy.
Businesses, organizations, and many individuals have provided sponsorships and prizes & donations to make Scrabble for Literacy a successful event each year.
Past and present sponsors include various churches, Rotary and Lions Clubs, local Chenango County Businesses and banks, as well as local Libraries and hospitals. Our thanks so far this year go to the Norwich United Church of Christ, Bainbridge Pharmacy, Inc., Mead Westvaco, GHS Federal Credit Union, Sidney Federal Credit Union, Hayes Office Supply, NBT Bank & Trust, The Yaleville Inn, Fred’s Inn and Raymond Corporation. Door Prizes and Gift Certificates have also been donated in the past by many Chenango County small businesses, including Pine Ridge Groceries, Guernsey Memorial Library, The Silo Restaurant, Arnell’s Music Shop, Clyde’s Little Red Barn, Frontier Telecommunications, Bonnie Gale’s Line Dancing, Jay’s Hotdog Stand, McNeil’s Jewelers Inc., Nathanael Greene’s Restaurant, OFC WIC & RSVP Programs, Pire’s Flower Shop, and Present’ations.
