Norwich quartet moving on to states

VESTAL - Norwich's brilliantly talented quartet of lightning-quick ladies will take a school record with them as they move on to the Division II New York State Track and Field Championships next Friday at the University of Buffalo.

Tornado underclassmen Cleo Daoud, Sarah Bonnell, Elisha Eddy, and Katie Benenati broke the school record in the 400-meter relay timing a 50.8 in the semifinals. In the finals, the time was just a tad slower, but still good enough to best all comers in Division II. "I was so excited, I never saw my stop watch," said Norwich co-head coach Phil Curley.

All season long, the four sprinting mavens, Daoud a freshman, the other three just sophomores, teased at the record coming as close as one-tenth of a second. Getting pushed by larger schools such as Vestal, Binghamton, and Elmira Southside had Norwich at its best.
