Folk-rocker Dan Bern at the Earlville Opera House Saturday
EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House welcomes folk-rock troubadour, Dan Bern, with his biting humor and intelligence at 8 p.m. on Saturday. Bern is one of a generation of great songwriters (along with Matthew Ryan, Jeff Tweedy, Steve Earle, John Wesley Harding, and Ryan Adams). Multi-instrumentalist Peter Kuhn will accompany Bern.
“Like Loudon Wainwright, Dan Bern mixes pop culture with personal reflection, humor with cerebral eloquence. His acerbic wit can sometimes be a bitter pill to swallow, but in the blink of an eye he easily can shift gears to reveal the most intimately tender moments…Bern brandishes his songs with the folk-rock swagger of The Byrds and Bob Dylan, while adding in a touch of punk-rock angst à la Elvis Costello. His melodies are bouncy and buoyant, and their sprightly nature is designed to rattle around in one’s brain, bringing out the sense of hope that flutters about in his disillusioned world.” The Music Box.
Bern has gained recent fame for his Hollywood connection. He wrote many of the tunes for the soundtrack of the recent film “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” starring John C. Reilly as Dewey Cox – fictional folk hero..
Spend a rare evening with Dan Bern in a historic setting in the Chenango River valley. It is rare for him to tour outside the large metropolitan areas where he normally plays. The performance is recommended for adult audiences and may include adult language and political commentary. Tickets are $18 for the general public, $16 for EOH members, and $13 for students. The EOH Theater is wheelchair-accessible with a ramp and a lift. Don’t forget to visit our Artisan’s Gift Shop and EOH Arts Café. The café is always open before the performance and during intermission, and serves tasty desserts, refreshing summer drink classics, and hot coffee/tea as well. For more information, or to reserve your seats, call 315-691-3550 or order online at www.earlvilleoperahouse.com.
Earlville Opera House events are made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency, and through the generosity of Earlville Opera House members.
