Oxford Food Mart opens today

OXFORD – Fresh meats and produce will be available in Oxford once more with the grand opening of the Oxford Food Mart Friday. The small grocery store, owned by brothers Glenn and David Johnson, is located on South Canal Street.

The brothers purchased the building in December of 2007 and contemplated several uses for the space before deciding to open the Food Mart. “We were thinking of doing a restaurant,” said David Johnson, “but found there was an overwhelming need for a grocery store.”

The Johnsons were attracted to the Route 12 location because of the visibility it offers. “Parking may be a little tight,” said Glenn Johnson, but the brothers are not overly concerned. They feel customers will not have difficulty finding parking in either the Village Parking Lot across the street or the lot, also owned by the village, which adjoins the Town Hall.

“Mayor (Terry) Stark was instrumental in getting this built,” said Glenn Johnson, pointing out the gravel walkway the village has created to connect the Oxford Food Mart with the adjacent parking area.
