RSVP honors volunteers at breakfast
NORWICH – On Saturday, Aug. 2 the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) held its 10th Annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast at Studebaker’s Restaurant.
These 374 senior volunteers, from all corners of the county, served almost 56,000 hours in 50 non-profit agencies in the past year. If the RSVP volunteers were replaced by paid employees, it would cost the agencies and organizations $1,043,000 over the past year alone.
Fifteen volunteers celebrated ten years of membership with RSVP. Doc DeBoer and David Dunham (below) are shown smiling as they congratulate each other on achieving the 600 volunteer hour mark. Doc remains active volunteering at the Northeast Classic Car Museum, the Chenango County Fair, Chenango County Fire Police and South New Berlin Fire Department. David serves at the Catholic Charities Roots & Wings Food Pantry. Both of these gentlemen are illustrations of selfless seniors, giving back to their community. These are only a small example of the volunteer opportunities available to RSVP members.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program provides rewarding and productive experiences for people 55 and older, enriching the lives of the volunteers and those they serve. RSVP, a program of Opportunities for Chenango, Inc., has been in existence in Chenango County since 1995, and is funded through the Corporation for National Service, the State Office for Aging and Chenango United Way.
