Field Hockey
Oxford 2, Walton 0
OXFORD – After a first half of play in which Oxford head coach Melissa Chrystie said her team need to adjust to the field and the heat, her team came on strong to pull out the shutout win Wednesday.
“In the second half we really picked it up,” Chrystie said. “We were close a couple of times, and we didn’t want to play for overtime because it was kind of hot.”
Following a Walton timeout, Oxford put itself on the scoreboard at the 10-minute mark when Danielle Murphy scored off a Jessica Martin pass. Five minutes later, Chantel Crandall tallied again for the Blackhawks. “I think we got a spark coming out of the timeout,” Chrystie said. “Walton is a pretty good team that finished just behind us last year, and their defense was pretty good today.”
Oxford hosts Harpursville Friday night in the first round of the Oxford Tournament.

Christine Conroe tallied at 19:33 on a pass from Andrea Day, but the Tigers showed early grit matching that score less than two minutes later
Conroe scored off a rebound at 10 minutes, and Amy David made a move from midfield to forward, and immediately sparked her club. David tallied twice, at 4:16 and 2:41, to put the Trojans in command.
Day and Anna Crumb scored in the second half. “We still have a lot of work and we’re still jelling on defense,” Carlin said. “We missed some connections in the first half, but at the end of the half we clicked well together.”

We deserved to win, unfortunately some of the calls went the other way.”
