Sacco pleads guilty to Chenango charges
NORWICH – A New Jersey man found guilty by a federal jury for buying a 12-year-old girl for sex appeared in Chenango County Court Monday to plead guilty to some of the charges that took place in the City of Norwich.
Dean Sacco, 49, of Jersey City, N.J., pleaded guilty to first degree criminal sexual act, a B felony. Sacco admitted in court to using the 12-year-old local girl for sexual gratification in exchange for rent from her mother. Sacco accepted an agreement that would sentence him to five years in state prison and five years post release supervision.
District Attorney Joseph McBride said the local charges would run concurrent with whatever sentence Sacco receives in federal court Sept. 30. Sacco was convicted May 30 of five federal charges involving sex trafficking and producing child pornography and is facing a minimum sentence in federal prison of 30 years.
Sacco was arrested in New Jersey on March 19, 2007 and transported back to Chenango and charged with several sex crimes, including three counts of first degree rape.
The District Attorney’s Office said Sacco was the landlord at the victim’s residence in the City of Norwich and allegedly exploited the girl sexually in exchange for rent reductions with the consent of her mother, Linda O’Connor, 46, of Norwich. O’Connor also faces life in prison after being convicted of three federal charges involving sex abuse and trafficking.
The case was taken over by the FBI after it was discovered that the Norwich incident was related to a much larger child pornography and prostitution ring that crossed state lines.
Sacco will be sentenced locally on Sept. 18.
