Dems tap McNeil as party chair
CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango County Democratic Committee held its reorganizational meeting Wednesday night and named Patrick McNeil chairman.
McNeil, who has been a member of the County Democratic Committee for the past 20 years, has held the position of second vice chair in the past.
“When the past chair decided not to circulate petitions this year, I made some calls and decided I wanted to be a candidate,” he said.
The previous party chair was Catherine Ulfik, who led the committee for 11 years.
“I’m looking forward to serving the committee,” McNeil said. The new committee leader said he has seen renewed energy in the Democratic party this year. “There is a great deal of enthusiasm out there. We’re going to do well.”
During Wednesday’s reorganizational meeting, Carol Franklin was appointed to the position of vice chair. Richard Mackay was appointed second vice chair. Ken Fogarty was appointed treasurer, and Christine Brunner was appointed secretary.
The Chenango Democratic Committee’s headquarters will be located next to Ives Cream on South Broad Street in Norwich. The committee has not set a specific date for the grand opening of their headquarters yet, but plan to hold the event around the second week of October. McNeil said the committee plans to have some candidates in attendance for the event.
