Norwich Fire Department welcomes community tonight

NORWICH – City of Norwich firefighters will be welcoming citizens into their second home tonight at their annual open house.

The doors will be raised from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the East Main Street station and a number of local families are expected to attended.

Each year, the second week of October is designated as Fire Prevention Week and fire departments across Chenango have been arranging public events, inviting local residents to get to know the men and women serving in the local fire districts.

Norwich’s open house will include free popcorn, cookies and refreshments. Firefighters will also demonstrated how they rescue someone trapped in an accident by taking a vehicle apart with their heavy equipment.
