Holy Family School dedicates new elevator
NORWICH – On Thursday, Holy Family School celebrated the first ride in their new elevator. The school is now completely accessible to everyone, thanks to the generosity of many donors, particularly The RC Smith Foundation, the Follett Foundation, George Carnrike Jr. and donors to Holy Family’s Annual Fund.
Fr. Cunningham led the event by offering a few words about Robert Smith, the major donor behind the effort to install the lift. Smith graduated from St. Paul’s School in 1937 and, after finishing his education, lived and worked in Norwich. A quiet man who didn’t seek recognition, he was very dedicated to assisting his parish, school and the community.
Attending the dedication ceremony were George Carnrike, who provided construction guidance and services, Gary Clark, trustee of the RC Smith Foundation, the Holy Family School students, parents and friends and Smith’s lifelong friend John Tiquin. Tiquin was pleasantly surprised by the invitation to take the first ride in the elevator, and was accompanied by three students chosen at random: Angelo Mirabito, 8th grade, Michael Trevisani, 3rd grade and Leah Kalin, 1st grade.
Holy Family School is Chenango County’s only Catholic School, providing an excellent educational alternative for families who seek a traditional academic atmosphere for their children. Contact Holy Family at 337-2207 for more information.
