Storm look for first win tonight at Sauquoit
UV-Edmeston (0-7) at Sauquoit Valley (0-7), Thursday, 7 p.m.
Sauquoit Valley is looking for the same thing as Unadilla Valley-Edmeston: It’s first win.
The two clubs square off tonight at 7 p.m. in an intersectional contest in which one of the two teams will go home a winner for the first time in 2008. “We had high hopes, but it’s been one of those years and we didn’t accomplish what we thought we could or should,” said UV-E third-year coach Jack Loeffler. “We had a nice second half last week, and we want to play with pride and dignity. We would like to finish up with two wins so we can get some confidence for the guys coming back next year.”
In Sauquoit Valley, the Storm find a team that is nearly their mirror image. Over the last three weeks, SV has been outscored a combined 87-10. UV-E has dropped the last three by a 126-6 count over the same period.
Since scoring two touchdowns in a 20-15 opening loss to Ilion, SV has reached the 10-point mark on offense just one other time, and averages less than seven points per game.
UV-E meanwhile has scored a shade under eight points a game, but has just one touchdown over the last 12 quarters, and that one came on the last offensive play of the game against Unatego in week five.
“We’ve exchanged films and they have good size up front and run a pretty straight-forward offense – not a lot of flashy stuff,” Loeffler said. “We think we can beat them off the ball and we might be a little stronger.”
