NORWICH – The Norwich City School District Board of Education received the final edition of a 55-page audit at Tuesday night’s meeting.

“All and all, for the area and some unpredictable elements out of the district’s control, it was quite good,” said auditors and CPA Michael Rossi.

Rossi explained that the audit found no material weaknesses - which are the highest rated concerns - but did note a significant deficiency.

The issue involved the district’s fixed assets which are handled by DCMO BOCES in Broome County.

The assets are expenditures of $500 and above that are tracked by BOCES. Rossi said the problem was that the information was difficult for auditors to acquire from the contractor’s data base.

Rossi said the finding would have constituted a material weakness if not for the “painstaking effort” the auditors took in acquiring the information they needed from BOCES.

The difficulty in obtaining the information was the reason for having the problem in the first place, explained Rossi, who added that most area schools had a similar issue with the software system.
