Maiurano appointed to Council of Mayors’ legislative committee
NORWICH – City of Norwich Mayor Joseph Maiurano has been appointed Legislative Representative for the Finance Policy Committee of the New York State Conference of Mayors (NYCOM), and as such will also serve on NYCOM’s Legislative Committee. Mayor John McDonald of the City of Cohoes, president of the Conference of Mayors, made the appointment.
As a member of the Legislative Committee, Maiurano will be directly involved in developing and ratifying NYCOM’s legislative program for the upcoming 2009 legislative session in Albany. Additionally, once the legislative session is underway, he will work with the other Legislative Committee members and NYCOM’s entire membership to secure the enactment of bills favorable to local taxpayers. NYCOM’s legislative priorities for 2009 are determined in November, forwarded to the Governor’s Office as he prepares the 2009-2010 Executive Budget, and then shared with members of the State Legislature after the release of the Executive Budget.
In making the appointment. Mayor McDonald stated, “Mayor Maiurano has been active in the Conference of Mayors and we are pleased to have him involved in this important undertaking. In these difficult economic times, Mayor Maiurano’s service will be of great assistance in our efforts to protect property taxpayers from state-imposed tax shifts.”
The Conference of Mayors represents city and village governments in New York State and has 592 members, ranging from the smallest village to the City of New York. NYCOM has been in existence since 1910.
