Public hearing for county budget tonight

NORWICH – A public hearing for the Chenango County 2009 budget will be held at 7 tonight in the Supervisor’s Chambers, third floor of the County Office Building, 5 Court St., Norwich. Supervisors are scheduled to adopt the budget at a meeting of the board at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Spending decreased by $382,481 million or .48 percent. The real property tax levy of $22.7 million is up about $3,096 or 0.01 percent.
The average countywide tax rate of $15.48 will fluctuate, either increasing or decreasing, in all 22 municipalities based on state-established equalization rates. The tentative tax rate dropped an average of 35 cents per $1,000 of assessed value from last year.
