Music Square opens in Norwich
NORWICH – A new music store recently opened its doors to the community this holiday season.
Music Square welcomed musicians and gift seekers to the former Sears buiding located on 5463 State Highway 12 in the Town of Norwich, about a quarter mile north of the Lower Ravine Road and Rt. 12 traffic light intersection.
The store is an affiliate of Boynton Pro-Audio Company which has been in business for the last 50 years, and is moving to the Norwich store from its prior location for the last three decades in Morris, explained Deric Frost, director of development.
“We are a dealer of more than 250 top product lines of musical instruments and audio,” said Frost.
Store hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The store is closed Mondays.
“It made sense to open up a venue in Norwich. We believe the retail map has enough to sustain a good stream of business,” said Frost. “We are extremely happy for our company to be here in Norwich. This is a big step for our operations leaving the place we’ve been for the last 30 years. We’re very excited to be here.”
Music Square will also offer music lessons and classes on how to repair instruments. The store also offers a mobile DJ service.
Boynton Pro-Audio has another music store in the Southside Mall in Oneonta and bought the building from Sears originally for warehouse and office space. Frost said that the business would be hiring a full time and a part time position for the Music Square located in the front of the building.
The back of the building will be used by the Boynton Pro-Audio for its nationwide online and mail ordering services, which makes up a larger part of the company than direct customer retail, explained Frost. It will be comprised of 10 full-time employees who will be transferring from the Morris location, he said.
