GREENE – Greene extended its Midstate Athletic Conference winning streak to 37 meets dating back to the 2001 season winning all but two events Thursday against Cooperstown.
George Flanagan had four total wins including the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. Patrick Kelsey and Jacob Owens contributed three total victories for Greene (1-1).
“We put forth a superior effort tonight,” said Greene coach Mike Platta. “We swam well against Johnson City, but there was extra incentive tonight in our first league meet.”

AFTON – The Makos took first and the all-important third-place finish in the meet-closing 400-yard relay to edge Sherburne-Earlville Thursday in its home opener.
Afton/B-G/H/S’s Kevin Bullis won the 100-yard breaststroke drawing his team within 76-73. “Third place in the 400 relay came down to the last five yards,” said Makos coach Kevin Diefenbacher. “It was a good meet all the way down. Sherburne-Earlville had its share of firsts, but we kept it close with depth points. We’re improved this year, and we’re pleased with a lot of the new swimmers that came out.”

AFTON – Gearing up for this weekend’s Clyde Cole Tournament at Oxford, the Bears won all but three matches in a rout of the Storm.
Returning sectional champions Wayne Cirigliano (112), Danny Gormley (119), and Victor Coronado (145) posted decisive wins. “It’s definitely good to get a match under our belts before the tournament,” said B-G/Afton coach Brandon MacNaught. “We’ve always done better with match experience entering that tournament.”

NORWICH – Norwich was unable to maintain its strong start in the first game dropping a final to Sus Valley Thursday at Plaza Lanes.
Norwich had an even 1,000 in the opening game before dropping to 821 and 874 over the final two.
Dustin Jenkins used a 257 game to finish with a 638 series to top Norwich. The Tornado are are Owego Tuesday.
