Fire destroys Southtown barn

SOUTH NEW BERLIN – A volunteer firefighter on his way to work late Tuesday spotted a strange glow on the horizon and discovered a barn fire in the Town of South New Berlin.

South New Berlin Fire Chief Carl Burk Sr. said one of his squad leaders, Ronald Brown, saw the fire and called it in as he was driving to the Sheriff’s Office where he works as a dispatcher at around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire engulfed an abandoned barn belonging to Ralph Sanchez of 563 Pat Farley Rd. in the Town of South New Berlin.

The owner was not home at the time and no one was injured in the fire, but the structure was a total loss, said Burk.
