OXFORD – Sidney junior Dani Gravel scored on a breakaway layup with 43 seconds remaining to break a 41-41 tie and give Sidney a victory at Oxford Wednesday.
Gravel was instrumental in the Warriors’ big third quarter that gave the visiting club a six-point lead. She hit two three-pointers over the last 90 seconds of the stanza, and had 10 of her team’s 14 points. “Gravel is probably an all-league type of player, and her points swung the momentum their way,” said Oxford coach Chris Palmer.
Oxford closed a 39-31 gap in the fourth quarter getting two buckets apiece from Haley Witchella and Chantel Crandall, along with a basket from Chelsea Farrell. Witchella had 19 points to lead the Blackhawks.

Norwich 39, Owego 27
NORWICH – Norwich halted a four-game losing streak taking control of Wednesday’s game in the third quarter.
The Tornado held the Indians without a field goal, and broke away from a 19-19 halftime score to lead 33-21. “We were a little more patient on offense in the third quarter, and we got better looks at the basket,” said Norwich coach Krista Porter.
Elisha Eddy and Adrienne Sharpe each had two baskets in the third, while Hannah Runyon picked up four points including a 15-footer with three seconds left in the quarter.
Owego’s only points of the quarter came on a pair of free throws from Brittany Rando. “Our man-to-man defense started to get more aggressive as the game went along, and we forced a lot of turnovers,” Porter said.
Eddy had 10 points and seven rebounds. Sharpe posted a nine-point game, while Runyon and Michelle Testani each dished out four assists.
Norwich (2-4) plays at Chenango Forks Friday.

DEPOSIT – Unadilla Valley hit nine free throws in the fourth quarter to withstand Deposit’s rally giving the Storm their second win of the season Wednesday.
UV recorded its best balanced scoring – and highest scoring contest to date. Hannah Johnson scored a season-high 17 points, while Emily Sugar and Melissa Friedel netted 11 each.
Deposit hit five three-pointers in the first half, and trailed UV 25-23 at the break. “They were making nearly everything they threw up at the basket (in the first half),” said UV coach Brandi Backus. “We moved from a zone to man-to-man pressure, and that made a difference.”
Johnson added 14 rebounds for UV (2-2), who host Afton Friday.
