Woman killed in South New Berlin accident

SOUTH NEW BERLIN – A 49-year-old New Berlin woman was killed Saturday when another driver failed to stop at a red light intersection and collided with her car in a T-bone collision.

Rosalie Searles, of County Rt. 18, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chenango County Medical Examiner Dr. John Cruz. Searles died as a result of head and neck injuries sustained during the crash, which took place at about 12:54 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of state routes 8 and 23.

The vehicle that struck Searles was driven by 22-year-old Christopher Greco of New Berlin.

Police said both Greco and a 21-year-old passenger who was traveling with him suffered minor injuries in the crash. Police said all occupants were wearing their seat belts.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Richard Cobb said Greco was traveling north along State Rt. 8 and that the front of his vehicle struck the victim’s car perpendicular, hitting the driver’s side door.
