Snowplow drivers get welcomed day off
NORWICH – The workload was light Christmas day and today, so Chenango County’s snowplow drivers had the much welcomed opportunity to stay home with their families for the holidays.
After putting in 34 days of plowing starting in early October, they deserve it, said Deputy Director of Public Works Jeffrey Barrows. “Most of our guys have young families. It’s nice that they could have a chance to be with them yesterday and today.”
Workers were expected to clear away snow and ice from the County Office Building parking lot in downtown Norwich today as well as handle regular maintenance work. The county’s landfill operators in North Norwich and Brisben were expecting a busy day, however.
