Mavis Discount Tire acquires Cole Muffler
NORWICH – Cole Muffler Brake, located on Broad Street in Norwich, will become Cole Muffler Brake & Tire after the acquisition by Westchester County-based Mavis Discount Tire takes place.
Manager Michael Bixby said he had no idea when the transaction will be finalized, but he said customers who have charge accounts are asked to establish a new account with Mavis directly. Customers may call Bixby for the number.
No other changes are expected at the store in Chenango County.
The downstate discount tire and auto service center chain has acquired most assets of Syracuse-based Cole Muffler Brake, creating a statewide network of stores while closing two locations in Buffalo. Mavis will continue to operate with the same menu of services, but with a larger selection of tires and lower prices.
Cole was founded by Don Cole in 1968 in Fulton and grew to 45 stores in New York and five in Pennsylvania.
Mavis was founded in 1972 as Mavis Tire Supply Corp., but its roots date back to 1949 and a bicycle repair shop in Mount Vernon. It claims to be the leading online discount tire dealer in the country, shipping brand-name tires to a customer’s home or office.
