Seward takes oath of office

ONEONTA – State Senator James L. Seward (R/I/C – Oneonta) took the oath of office Friday for another term, sworn in by Otsego County Judge Brian Burns.
Following the swearing-in, Seward commented on the challenging times that lie ahead.
“We need bipartisan, cooperative solutions to cure this budget deficit. We must have property tax relief, and the state must help create a climate where businesses open and new jobs grow.
“Government can be more efficient. State agencies that have served their purpose can now be downsized or consolidated with other departments. Economic development needs to be job one. We are all concerned about Wall Street, but let’s not forget Main Street.
“Nothing worth accomplishing is easy, and bringing New York back to the top will be tough, but it can be done.
Senator Seward was first elected to the state senate in 1986; he will be serving his 12th term.
