Audition for ‘Oklahoma!’
AFTON – The Afton Community Theater will hold auditions for the musical “Oklahoma” on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 13-14, according to director Rich Cuthbertson. Auditions will be held between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. both evenings in the auditorium at Afton Central School.
This ever-popular play by Rodgers and Hammerstein calls for a very large cast (male and female leads and chorus -- all ages). “I know we have many talented people in the area and look forward to seeing them at the auditions,” said Cuthbertson. “So if you’ve been part of a musical production before, or ever wanted to be, this one is not to be missed.”
“Oklahoma” will be presented April 24, 25, and 26 in the state-of-the-art auditorium at Afton Central School.
The play features songs such as “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “I Cain’s Say No,” “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” “Surrey with the Fringe on Top,” and the rousing title song. An 18-piece orchestra will be part of the production.
The play has been called “the best musical of the twentieth century,” capturing a special Pulitzer Prize for drama, two Academy Awards as a film, a special Tony Award in 1993, and four Olivier Awards including Best Musical in 1999.
Afton Community Theater considers itself fortunate to have received the rights to perform the show. For more information, contact Rich Cuthbertson at 639-2930 or Elana Hulsey at 639-3824.
