Oxford accident leaves three Binghamton women injured

OXFORD – Three women were injured Wednesday morning when their sports utility vehicle ricocheted off the side of an oncoming snowplow.
The two vehicles struck each other over the center line as the SUV was heading north on state Rt. 12, about half a mile past county Road 3, Tyner Road, in the Town of Oxford, when it encountered the New York State Department of Transportation snowplow that was heading south.
New York State Troopers at the scene said it appeared that both vehicles were straddling the center yellow line when the accident occurred. Police said the SUV driver’s front fender struck the driver’s side of the snowplow, tearing the SUV’s wheel off. The SUV then spun out of control before coming to a rest in the center of the road.
State Troopers and Village of Oxford Fire and Police Departments responded to the scene after receiving a 911 cell phone call from a passing motorist at 10:09 a.m.
The three Binghamton women in the vehicle, operator Quy Kim Le, 50, front passenger Hoang K. Le, 37, and back seat passenger Lucy K. Huynh, 25, were taken by ambulance from the scene and treated for minor injuries at Chenango Memorial Hospital. The operator of the snowplow, Alex R. Tumilowicz, 25, was not injured.
The plow suffered minor damage compared to the SUV and was tentatively driven from the scene to receive immediate repair. The SUV was severely damaged and hauled from the site on a flatbed truck.
Troopers said no tickets would be issued.
