New golf pro takes over at Canasawacta Country Club
NORTH NORWICH – Canasawacta Country Club has announced the hiring of Charley Winn as head professional.
Winn comes to Canasawacta with more than 14 years of experience as either a head professional or first assistant. He was most recently first assistant at the Shackamaxon Golf & Country Club in Scotch Plains, N.J. He also served as first assistant at Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club in New Durham, N.H. and as head pro at the Onteora Club in Tannersville.
Originally from Wisconsin, Winn currently resides in Ft. Myers, Fla. While the position officially begins on March 2nd, he will begin assisting with the arrangement of tournament scheduling and programming prior to relocating to the area.
“Charlie was chosen for his very personable nature from a pool of candidates with extensive experience and a strong desire to secure this particular opportunity for a head professional position. Winn has provided over 600 hours of golf instruction in his past two seasons, also providing a variety of programs to more than 100 junior players at his previous club. He is experienced in supervising a shop staff, growing the membership, managing member and corporate outings and tournaments, and providing a large selection of merchandise.
A member of the Professional Golf Association since 1994, he was the Assistant Professional Champion of the Northeastern New York Section in 2004 and had a Vardon Stroke average of 72.2 in the Northeastern New York Section in 2005.
Winn completed a PGA Advanced Professional Training Program in 1998; attended PGA Coaching and Teaching Summits in 2000 and 2006; a Cart Fleet Management Workshop in 2001; a GHIN Software Seminar in 2000; a United States Golf Association Rules of Golf Seminar in 2002; a David Leadbetter Instructional workshop in 1996; and a Henry Griffitts Club Fitting Seminar in 1995.
He holds a bachelor of arts in communication from the University of Wisconsin in 1987 where he was team captain of the men’s golf team for three years.
CCC is has been owned and operated by Carson Family Enterprises, Inc. since 1985. It is a semi-private club, open to the public, with an 18-hole championship grade golf course, full service restaurant and bar, and indoor and outdoor banquet facilities serving all types of events and receptions. More than 350 members join Canasawacta annually.
“With 2009 pre-season membership sales exceeding that of the past two seasons, and confirmed event bookings also ahead of target projections, the company is looking forward to another successful year in 2009,” said Carson.
CCC has helped to raise over $250,000 for local charities and non-profit organizations through fundraising golf outings and other events, the owner said.
